How to Switch Broadband Provider If you already have Broadband and want to switch to another provider, you will need to obtain a MAC Code (Migration Authorisation Code) from your existing Broadband provider. This will give you a transfer of your Broadband service with little loss of service (you should NOT request the service be ceased). Depending on the provider, you may experience approximately a short downtime on the day of your migration. Your existing service provider will normally provide the MAC within 5 working days of request. The MAC is valid for a period of 30 days from the date that it is issued. You will not be able to switch provider using a MAC code if your existing broadband is delivered via cable, such as Home Choice, NTL or Telewest line. So that you can switch, your broadband must be delivered via your BT phone line. If you do wish to move from a cable provider to a new broadband provider, you should first cancel your cable service and order a BT line. Only once the BT line is active, you will be able to register for broadband on that line. How to obtain a MAC Code Below is a list of contact numbers for popular broadband providers in the UK that you can contact to obtain a MAC code. If your existing provider is not listed then contact their broadband customer service line and ask for a MAC code as you wish to change your broadband provider.
